DENISON — With the
attractive local economy, and the desire to expand business west of
the Mississippi River, Mar-Mac Wire will be opening a distribution
center and sales office in Denison in 2008.
The
family-owned company was established in 1953 in McBee, S.C. Mar-Mac
Wire manufactures steel wire products for the concrete industry.
Martin
Martin is the company’s logistics manager. “My grandfather
established the business in 1953,” he said. “We have been a
manufacturer for the better of time since, but do some imports.
We’re committed to keeping as many jobs in the U.S. as possible.”
Martin has
set mid-January 2008 to begin production in the Denison plant. He
said he expects to hire about eight employees within the first year.
The annual estimated payroll is $270,000, an average pay of $33,750
per position.
“The main
reason we’re opening in Denison is it’s more economical than Dallas
with a lot of the same advantages,” explained Martin. “The cost of
living is lower, the cost of space is a little bit lower, and you
still get a lot of the advantages of buying freight. It worked out
on paper and looks like a good place to stay.”
The business
will occupy the J.C. Ray Building, a 20,000 square-foot facility on
Juanita Drive.
By entering
an agreement with the Denison Development Alliance under these
payroll, job creation, and leasing conditions, Mar-Mac Wire will
also receive quarterly cash payments amounting to as much as $16,000
for two years. This figure is based on three percent of the base
taxable payroll. |
