Champion Cooler announced today a $1 million expansion of its Denison operations that will increase local employment by 20 and provide capacity for additional manufacturing processes. Construction will begin immediately on a 36,000 square foot manufacturing facility.
Champion’s largest competitor has moved out of the country making Champion Cooler the largest domestic manufacturer of evaporative coolers. Champion has been in Denison for 50 years and has two operations. Their main plant is 193,000 square feet and they also have a steel-processing center of 34,500 square feet. Champion’s current employment is 120.
“Our industrial product business is up 34% since the first of the year,” said Johnson. “Our goal is to keep jobs in the United States, specifically in Denison, where we are producing the highest quality Coolers made in the world,” he added.
The Denison Development Alliance and the City of Denison are investing in the project through a very aggressive incentive package. “The expansion of a local company is the best news a community can have,” said Tony Kaai, President, Denison Development Alliance. “When it comes to investing in projects Denison’s leadership has always had the policy of doing as much or more for an existing company as they do for a new company”, stated Kaai. The Denison Development Alliance will provide $2,700 per new job created and they have recommended that the local taxing entities provide a 100% tax abatement for 10 years for the new investment of approximately $1,000,000.
Champion Cooler manufacturers evaporative coolers. Evaporative coolers utilize the natural process of water evaporation along with an air-moving system to create effective cooling. Fresh outside air is pulled through wetted filters that cool the air through water evaporation. A blower wheel then circulates the cool air throughout a room, home, or business.
